About Banner

ROCA International Case Competition 2023 will be hosted by Sprott School of Business (Carleton University, Ottawa) and Rotterdam Business School (Rotterdam University AS). This event will feature 16 teams from across the globe.

The Opening Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 22 October, with matches beginning on Monday, 23 October  and continuing throughout the week. The champion will be announced during the Gala event on Friday, 27 October.

Apart from the matches, social events and network opportunities are an important and integrative part of the competition. We will reveal the full program in August, but we have some exciting and interesting activities planned for you, so stay tuned!

Unique in this competition is that each team will play 3 matches, solving 3 different cases. After 3 matches the divisional winners plus 2 second best teams will continue to the Finals, solving another case.

All ROCA cases will be live, relevant, and challenging and cover a broad range of interdisciplinary business problems with a strong focus on sustainability, leadership and other shifts in the present-day economy. All cases are being written in close cooperation with companies and institutions. You will also be provided with the opportunity to communicate with relevant managers during the competition-week.

All ROCA cases will be accompanied by a digital database with relevant sources. The database will be made available to the teams several weeks before the start of the case competition week. This will provide a level-playing field for all teams and also results in better solutions for the company’s challenges.

Teams will have 6 hours time to read the case and prepare their solution and presentation. To ensure fair chances, all teams will solve the case in a staggered time slot. Afterwards, the 15 minutes team presentation will be presented to a jury of experts from leading companies in the Ottawa region and Academics, followed by a 10 minutes Q & A session where the teams have to defend their solution (in the Finals presentation time is 12 minutes and Q&A time 8 minutes). After every presentation round, all teams will receive extensive feedback from the jury panel, so that they can boost their presentation and case solving skills. The winner of the ROCA will be announced at the GALA event on Friday, 27 October.
